The Denniston Rose Trail is an interactive self-guided literary trail to the place that inspired the best-selling books by Jenny Pattrick — The Denniston Rose and Heart of Coal.
Developed by the Department of Conservation and Design for Innovation at the University of Otago, the trail comprises 17 key locations from the books, guiding visitors to traverse its uniquely rugged landscape, exploring Dennistons history. Denniston, once NZs largest producing coal mining area, is now managed by the Department of Conservation as an ICON heritage site, conserving and interpreting the area to showcase and bring to life New Zealands early industrial heritage.
